Moonlight Paddle on the Manitowoc River

The paddle starts at Lower Henry Schuette Park and ends at the YMCA beach. Our goal is to have all the participating kayaks/canoes/paddleboards launched by 8:15 so we can then paddle in close proximity of each other to enjoy the experience! You’ll need to work out your own vehicle transportation between the two locations. PFDs are required. Please also have some type of light on your body or kayak/canoe so you are visible as the sun sets. Many participants enjoy decorating themselves or their boats with fun lights!

In case of rain, we have a rain date set for the next night, August 29th, at 8:15.

Bird Talk and Paddling Activity at Collins Marsh

Friends of the Manitowoc River Watershed and Friends of Collins Marsh welcome the public to a day of activities celebrating life at the marsh, including:

• 10:00-11:00: A presentation, “Birds of Collins Marsh” by Dr. Medhavi Ambardar, Chief Scientist at the Lake Michigan Bird Observatory. She has studied bird behavior, reproduction, and physiology for over a decade, focusing primarily on parental care in songbirds. Collins Marsh is home to migratory and resident birds. During summertime, the marsh comes alive with breeding birds as they search for mates and breeding sites and find food to feed their offspring. Come learn about the birds of Collins Marsh - and how some of them raise their young.

• Beginning at 11:00 and through the afternoon: Paddling on the Marsh. Bring your own kayak or canoe and PFDs or rent from the Marsh. 4 single kayaks and 3 canoes along with PFDs are available for a $10 rental fee (free to Friends of Collins Marsh members) for one-hour use.

• Lunch time: Food will be for sale during the lunch time period. Enjoy a picnic overlooking the beautiful watershed. You can also choose to climb the tower and hike the trails!

• 11:00-1:00 Learn about boating safety at the Coast Guard Auxiliary Booth as well as Invasive Species awareness courtesy of the Wisconsin DNR.
